Sandra Isaacs lives in Christchurch, New Zealand. She enjoys traveling, meeting new people, and immersing herself in different cultures. However, her favourite place in the world is the small seaside settlement of Akaroa, New Zealand, where she took her first steps, over 50 years ago.
Inspired by her creative writing classes, morning walks in Akaroa, and the countless hours spent at the rock pools with her children, she wrote her first Children's book, Crabs Can't Fly.
When Sandra's not dreaming up her next story she enjoys walking her dog, playing card games with her teenage kids, and reading a good book. She also dabbles in a bit of painting and tackles a jig-saw puzzle every now and again in the winter months.
Sandra has also written a non-fiction book, for parents of ADHD children, which she published under a pen name.
Purple Crab lives in the rockpools by the sea in Akaroa, New Zealand. Some local birds think he'd be a tasty treat, and swoop in to try their luck. Crab has pincers though, and he can nip hard!!!
Discover nature as the birds carry Purple Crab from place to place. Where will he end up?
Written in rhyme, Crabs Can't Fly is a great read-aloud book for young nature lovers aged 3-5. The illustrations are superb, and the fact section at the back is an excellent introduction the New Zealand Creatures that you meet in the story.
Book 2 in the series of Tales of Kiwi Critters promises to be another engaging story. The main character, Hector, goes on an adventure to pursue his dream.
What is Hector's dream?
Who will he meet on his journey around the bays?
Release Date: December 2024.

If you're looking for something to read while you're on holiday in Akaroa pop in to see Leigh at The Good Story Book Shop, by The Common.
Leigh has a superb range of books for children and adults, and I am honoured to have Crabs Can't Fly on her shelves.
Emma, a local artist, operates What You Water by the main wharf in Akaroa. She sells her artwork and embossed clothing, as well as stocking a range of arts and craft from local artists. Emma has kindly included Crabs Can't Fly in her collection.
If you prefer to shop online, Crabs Can't Fly is available on Amazon in e-book and paperback formats.
One of the most pleasurable things for an author is seeing children enjoy their stories. Visiting kids in schools is top of my list of fun things to do when I'm not writing my next book.
The brutally honest feedback I receive from them is equal to that of a good editor! I like to share interactive activities and encourage the children in their creative processes.
A school visit by Sandra is more than just a book reading. The visit will be tailored for the year group of the children and the group size.
FOR EXAMPLE
I am currently available to visit schools in Canterbury.
